One of our goals at the Facebook Journalism Project is to provide tools and training for journalists around the world. We believe it is more important than ever that journalists are equipped with the skills to know what information to trust, share and act on, that’s why we’re proud to partner with the International Center for Journalists (ICFJ) to launch The Social Media Solutions Program.
The program will train 2500 journalists across seven countries in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and will offer webinars in Arabic to reach more journalists across the region. Starting in 2019, the trainers will hold in-person workshops in Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and the United Arab Emirates.
The Social Media Solutions Program is intended to support journalists as they sort fact from fiction across social platforms. The masterclasses will offer tips and cross-platform best practices for journalists on how to identify fake accounts, secure their digital footprint, and involve audiences in the news gathering process, among other critical skills. The training will also offer modules that focus on video reporting tools and learning new skills that helps them report news in more engaging ways.
