Starting October 8, the Facebook Journalism Project will host a Video Accelerator for news organizations across Europe to develop video best practices. The participating video publishers will work with industry experts to test and implement new strategies and techniques through the program.

Continuing the Facebook Journalism Project’s mission to collaborate with the news industry, and increasing our support to the region, the program will host publishers from the UK, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, the Netherlands, France, Spain, and Italy. In addition to offering mentoring and training from experts, the Video Accelerator will share $300,000 in grants among all participants. Publishers will use the funding to experiment with digital video strategies they learn during the program.

“We’re excited for this Video Accelerator to bring participants together to learn how to best create and monetize videos,” said Jesper Doub, Facebook’s director of news partnerships in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. “As part of our commitment to investing more in news organizations here in Europe, we hope these trainings will result in excellent digital videos on Facebook and their own platforms.”

The European Video Accelerator is part of the Facebook Accelerator Program, FJP’s business training program for news publishers. The International Center for Journalists (ICFJ), our partner in the program, selected academic and industry experts to join the sessions as guest speakers. Their presentations will focus on video production topics such as ideation, distribution, and monetization.
