The Funded Project:
Fund community forums and provide copies of monthly book selections to nonprofits and others in conjunction with the new Los Angeles Times Book Club.
In Their Own Words:
We are launching the Los Angeles Times Book Club in June 2019 to build community and make our journalism experiential. Every month, we’ll share a book and invite Southern California to read along and join the conversation. Then we’ll host a live event with the book’s author and invite readers to join that, too. We want to get people talking again by making our newspaper not merely something to read every day but something that brings us together as a community.
Once the book club is started, we plan to generate revenue via sponsorships and grants, while keeping general admission ticket prices low so that any reader who wants to attend can join the discussion.
